Evan Parish, PresidentEvan is one busy guy. I eventually tracked him down via email for a brief interview to find out what constitutes the man behind the presidency D: Evan, how long have you been involved in Toastmasters? E: Two years. D: Alright, and what are some things you enjoy doing outside of Toastmasters? E: Dancing, longboarding, hiking, laughing, writing, talking with and learning from people whose company I enjoy, mathematics, healthy food. D: Do you have any siblings? E: One little sister. She means everything to me. I was almost finished writing out my answers to this interview, and she came in telling me that she wanted to talk and we spent an hour and a half talking. Then I came back to write these two sentences. D: Okay, and what about your parents? E: They’re constantly telling me how to do things and telling me the way things are (even when they don’t know what they’re talking about). They've also provided me with more love than anyone can ever ask for. I wouldn't be the person I am so proud of being, were it not for them. D: What are your hopes for the club for the next year? E: We're going to be the best Toastmasters club this school has ever seen. D: That's very inspiring- who is someone that inspires you? E: My best friend Markus (one of several best friends). Any time you ask him a question, he gives you the best answer he can — every single time. He’s way more intelligent than I am, and most people for that matter, but thankfully I have reasonable logic and one of my greatest strengths is my ability to admit when I’m wrong. I’ve learned more from him than any other single person, and he’s the most caring friend that anyone could imagine. D: Gotcha. And what is one thing about you that other people in the club may not know? E: On the Starcraft II ladder (computer game), I started as one of the worst players of North America and after 5 months I was in the top 2%. No, this was not the Korean ladder. D: Great! And is there anything else that you would like to share for the blog? E: Well if you’re asking me what I’m desperate to share: nothing. |
